Supra's Smart Plate Technology

I have 30 hours on the new boat and think I can give a clear review of the new smart plate technology integrated with perfect pass.

One word pretty much sums it up-'awesome.'

Don't worry I won't leave my review at that!

A little background-
In previous years Supra used a hydraulic plate that could be controlled by the driver... much like the outdrive on an I/O. Having come from an I/O it wasnt a hard transition for me to have to play witht the trim of the plate. However whenever I had a driver that hadnt used such a device before, I would usually just set the trim where I would want it for when I was riding so the driver would have one less thing to worry about( I did this quite a bit with my I/O as well). The downfall to this was it would take longer to get on plane and it would use more gas! Small price to pay for a good pull and a driver that was more comfortable! Also, perfect pass could be set with different riders programmed in, but all riders shared the same pull characteristics(KDW, NN blah, blah blah)

Enter Smart Plate technology integrated with Perfect Pass.

So last year the buzz was building on this new system Supra was going to be using. My excitement was building as I knew I was lucky enough to be getting another new boat!

The idea being that PerfectPass would control the smartplate. It would automatically trim up the plate at preset speed(controlled by a setting that you can adjust). The factory crossover speed is something like 12mph.

Now the neat thing about this is that each rider that is programmed into perfect pass can have their own wakeplate position. For instance you have 'a' 'b' and 'c' riders programmed in. 'a' rider likes a very steep wake, so his preset is for the trim to be all the way up or 0%. Rider 'b' likes a more rampy wake and prefers the wakeplate at about 50%. Rider 'c' is somewhere in between so his setting is at 25%. All you have to do is select who is riding in the PP menu and his settings are all ready to go including the speed he likes to ride, and his pull characteristics adjusted with kdw and nn settings.

And don't worry, you still have the option of taking manual control of the wakeplate, however if you do so while pulling , you will have to take the time to turn it back on to automatic, or remember to adjust manually, which once you get used to the automatic system is easy to forget!

Now that is the meat and potatoes how it supposed to work. Here is what I have found after Using it.

The system works almost flawlessly, and is a great addition to the boat!

I changed my crossover setting to 20 mph just for better wholeshot and getting on plane when fully loaded with ballast and people. This made a huge difference especially with the factory prop!

Now I said almost flawlessly. I won't lie here, I have only seen one small glitch... occasionally the wakeplate position doesn't always go to the exact predetermined setting. For instance I have a few riders that like the steep wake, so their setting is 0%. Occasionally the wakeplate will only go to 8% or 12%. Now I have yet to have a rider notice such a small difference... well at least I haven't had any complaints... So it may just be the gauge that is being wacky!?! Hard to say without actually being under the backside of the boat while it is moving.. and that is not going to happen!

Another great thing added this year with the integrated perfectpass and smartplate technology was the digital gauges. All the temps and pressures are easy to find and read.

Needless to say I am very happy with this system and it should make it a lot less stressful putting other people in the drivers seat, especially when I am the one Riding!
